Double-Cross: The Hollywood Films of Douglas Gordon (2003)
Double-Cross: The Hollywood Films of Douglas Gordon, Toronto: The Power Plant and Art Gallery of York University, 2003.
Mimicking the artist’ s procedures, the book was written as noir and designed as a mirror. Through the chiasm of its middle chapter, "Criss-Cross," the book mirrors itself. The second half of the book, though, is a dissembling mirror, which reveals as well that the first half was a lie. The fold was implicative. Reversibility contaminates: a virtual trap reflecting the noir predicament of Gordon’s source films’ protagonists.
